The Origin of Märchenweltgrenze:
Five centuries ago, the picturesque region known as the Wirbelsäule, reminiscent of the majestic European Alps both in geography and cultural diversity, was home to six thriving kingdoms: Mountainheart, Silverlake, Highvalley, Whiterun, Greenmountain, and the mighty Dwarven stronghold of Dvergkongerfjell.
At the heart of this realm, King Edward of Mountainheart made a fateful decision, one that would reverberate through the annals of history. Over a decade prior, King Edward had sworn an oath to the Fey-born High-Elf enchantress, Gisela. In exchange for her becoming his court magician, Edward promised that his son would marry Gisela’s daughter. However, when the time came, King Edward reneged on his promise, shattering the delicate bond between mortal and Fey.
In a fit of rage and sorrow, Gisela, driven to madness by betrayal, unleashed her formidable magic upon the world. With a wave of her hand, she tore the veil between the Feyrealm and the mortal world asunder. Yet, fate had a cruel twist in store. The tear she wrought happened to be situated at the bottom of the Sea of Dreams in the Feyrealm.
From this gaping wound, in reality, a torrent of wild, untamed Fey magic-infused water surged forth like a raging river. It swept across the Wirbelsäule, leaving destruction and chaos in its wake. This cataclysmic event, forever remembered as the Night of the Wirbelsäule’s Drowning, reshaped the very fabric of the land in a single night.
Mountains crumbled, valleys shifted, and forests were uprooted as the raw power of water and wild fey magic coursed through the once-peaceful realm. Yet, despite the devastation, there was an unexpected consequence. The land itself possesses a vitality and resilience unlike anything seen before. Within weeks of the disaster, explorers from distant lands arrived to find a landscape transformed.
Ancient forests, teeming with Fey creatures and wonder, now sprawled across the region. Thus, the Wirbelsäule earned a new name, Märchenweltgrenze—the Fairyworld Border—a place where the material world and the Feyrealm intertwined in a dance of magic and mystery.
Geography of Märchenweltgrenze:
The very essence of Märchenweltgrenze defies conventional understanding. Its geography, as if molded by the capricious whims of the Fey themselves, appears nonsensical at first glance. The region’s outward dimensions, measuring 250 kilometers long by 190 kilometers wide, belie its true nature. Within the boundaries of its magical influence, Märchenweltgrenze expands to twice its apparent size, constantly shifting and fluctuating in size and shape.
Fluidity is the defining trait of this enchanted realm. Beyond the realm of Fey Sovereign Fredrick Von Bergherz’s Mountainheart, the very land oozes and flows, defying any attempt at permanence. Settlements, landmarks, and even entire mountains seem to dance across the landscape as the ground beneath them shifts and changes shape.
However, amidst this ever-changing landscape, certain elements remain constant. Märchenweltgrenze is encircled by imposing mountain ranges, forming a natural barrier that separates it from the outside world. Additional mountain ranges crisscross the region, dividing it into distinct areas such as the Great Valley and the Silver Highlands.
Forests cloak the land, their ancient boughs whispering secrets of ages past, while highland meadows, adorned with vibrant wildflowers, stretch across rolling hillsides. Rivers, their waters sparkling with the essence of magic, meander through the landscape, carving their paths through the verdant terrain.
At the heart of Märchenweltgrenze lies the Feysea, a vast inland sea born from the cataclysmic events of the Night of the Wirbelsäule’s Drawing. Its waters, infused with the residual magic of that fateful night, shimmer with an otherworldly luminescence, harboring secrets and mysteries yet to be unraveled.
Flora and Fauna of Märchenweltgrenze
Within the borders of Mountainheart, the diversity of flora and fauna is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Here, in the heart of Märchenweltgrenze, life teems with a vibrancy found nowhere else in the world. The influence of the Feyrealm is palpable, infusing every leaf, every creature, with a touch of magic.
Plants, ranging from delicate wildflowers to towering ancient trees, dot the landscape in a riot of colors and shapes. Many of these plants hail from the Feyrealm, their origins shrouded in mystery and wonder. Yet, even those who trace their roots to the material world bear the unmistakable mark of magic. Roughly half of all plants within Mountainheart possess a spark of sentience, their consciousness awakened by the potent energies that permeate the region.
Likewise, the fauna of Mountainheart reflects the realm’s enchanting nature. Creatures of all shapes and sizes roam the forests, meadows, and mountains, their forms as diverse as the tales spun by the bards of old. From graceful unicorns to mischievous pixies, the denizens of the Feyrealm make their home amidst the verdant splendor of Mountainheart.
Yet, even the more mundane creatures of the material world possess a certain magical allure within this enchanted realm. Nearly seventy percent of all animals within Mountainheart have been touched by awakening, granting them a heightened intelligence and awareness of the world around them.
Adventuring in Märchenweltgrenze:
Embarking on an adventure in Märchenweltgrenze is not for the faint of heart. While the realm may seem comparably tame compared to the Fyerealm itself, it is a land fraught with its own perils and mysteries. Here, the very landscape is known to twist, stretch, and ooze at random, defying attempts at navigation and exploration.
Maps, even the most detailed ones, serve as mere vague indicators of the general locations of settlements and landmarks. Roads and trails, while providing some semblance of direction, can lead travelers on a journey that stretches far beyond what they initially anticipated. A journey between two settlements that should take mere hours may instead take days, as the terrain shifts and changes with each passing moment.
Yet, it is not just the ever-changing landscape that poses a threat to adventurers in Märchenweltgrenze. The Feyfolk, with their mischievous nature and penchant for magical tricks, often delight in playing pranks on unwary travelers. What may seem like harmless fun to the Fey can result in serious injury or inconvenience for mortals.
Moreover, adventurers must navigate the intricate customs and values of the Fey, whose loose definitions of value and promises can lead to unexpected consequences. While the cardinal rules of the Fey dictate that promises must be honored and fair exchange upheld, it behooves adventurers to exercise caution and ensure that any bargains struck with the Fey are exactly as they appear.
Beware also the few truly malicious Fey that lurk within Märchenweltgrenze, such as hags. These creatures, adept at exploiting the cardinal rules of the Fey to ensnare the unwary, pose a significant threat to travelers who stray too far from the beaten path.
